cormorantToddInlet-5My writing centres around creative non-fiction, specifically science and nature writing and memoir. The landscapes and environmental issues of western Canada are the main inspiration for my work. I’ve freelanced for Nature News, Hakai Magazine, CH2M Hill, the University of Alberta, Outpost Magazine, and others over the past decade. My training includes writing workshops with Daphne Marlatt, Candas Jane Dorsey, Ken McGoogan, Ed Struzik and others, and editing courses through the University of Alberta and the Editors’ Association of Canada.

Academically, my background is in cold regions hydroecology. As a university professor, I studied snow and ice hydrology and ecosystem interactions in alpine and forested mountain regions across Western and Arctic Canada. I also taught courses in environmental science, hydrology and resource management. See my Google Scholar profile.

I’m a member of the Science Writers and Communicators of Canada, The Editors’ Association of Canada, the Federation of BC Writers, and a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society.
